Baptisms and Transfers – 20 September 2026
At our service on 20 September 2026, we had the joy of baptising and welcome one member, Rachel. Members of GBC had voted to receive her, and three others by transfer or by statement at the Members’ Meeting the week prior, on 13 September.
Baptism was given by Jesus to make visible the gospel and to encourage us in the faith. This is a symbolic act. When one goes under the water, we identify with Jesus’ burial and put to death our old, sinful self. When one emerges from the water, it pictures Jesus’ resurrection from the grave and how all who believe in Him have new life. Baptism does not save but it is a wonderful opportunity for us to express our faith in Jesus alone for salvation, and to demonstrate our willingness to follow Christ no matter what the cost is. It makes clear to all present that we are committed to follow Jesus, no matter the cost.
Pastor Eugene invited Rachel to share how has responded to the good news of Jesus. Rachel shared how she grew up in the church and in a Christian household and constantly heard the Bible taught to her. However, she struggled to obey God and even shunned Him. But God continued to pursue her:
But in His grace, He never stopped pursuing me. Through many meetups with my youth leaders and other members of the church who checked in on me, God softened my heart and called me back to Him. I began to seek out a genuine relationship with God, spending more time in His word, by attending care groups and reading the Bible for myself. And in His Word, I found not condemnation, but a love I did not deserve, yet was so abundant and immeasurable.
At the end of the service, Rachel, as well as the others who joined us by transfer — Yan En, Vashum and Carla — were introduced to the church.
