Baptisms and Transfers – 21 September 2025
We baptised and welcomed Ryan Tan at our 21 September service. Members of GBC had voted to receive him and Jane Lee (by transfer) at the Members’ Meeting on 14 September.
Before Ryan shared his testimony, Pastor Jeremy explained that baptism was instituted by Jesus to make visible the gospel and to encourage the saints in the faith. When one goes under the water, it is a sign of identifying with Jesus’ burial, and expresses a belief and commitment to putting to death the old sinful self. Rising up out of the water is a sign of identifying with Jesus’ resurrection. In doing so, the believer, expresses a commitment to faith and trust that Jesus alone gives new life.
This act of baptism does not save, but makes visible our union with Jesus, and our desire to obey Him no matter the cost.
Ryan, who was to be baptised that morning, shared his response to the gospel, and his commitment to live for God. Though he grew up in church, it was only recently that God challenged his comforts and led him to acknowledge his sins and need for a Saviour:
God helped me acknowledge my sins and that I am separated from God, unable to grasp the depths of His love or the goodness of His will. Yet He loves me at all times and always to the greatest extent, and that He can overcome even the hardest of hearts, including mine if I put my faith in Jesus. …
Through my faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, I know that I can come to Him lost as I am, and He’ll carry me back. Therefore, I can find peace in being a child of God knowing that I can look to Him for forgiveness and for the strength to break free from my sinful nature. Moving forward, together with y’all, I look forward to fighting the good fight, persevering till the very end.
So ultimately, what does Christianity mean to me? It’s the restoration of my relationship with God, and I am thankful for that. Soli Deo Gloria
