Gladiolus Place Outreach in 2024

A small team of GBC members have been reaching out to Gladiolus Place across the road from us and here they share about what they have been doing, and how more of us can participate.

Gladiolus Place is a non-profit residential Home for vulnerable teenage Girls who are facing or are at risk of abuse, neglect, delinquency, and wayward behaviours. Founded in 1998, Gladiolus Place's mission is to bring healing for their brokenness, renewal to their minds, and restoration to their families and communities as transformed individuals.

Grace Baptist has resumed our outreach to Gladiolus Place since 2022, when the COVID restrictions were lifted. This outreach to the girls and staff of Gladiolus Place seeks to provide dinners and build friendships so that we can share the good news of Jesus Christ.

In 2023, we had a dinner every two months, with an additional day in December when we celebrated Christmas by running a movie marathon during the day. The dinners ran from 7pm to 9pm, where we provided home-cooked meals for the girls. During the dinners, GBC members interacted with the girls and staff in order to slowly build friendships. After the dinner, there would be games or a chance to have heart to heart conversations. When the opportunity arose, we shared the gospel to the girls who opened up about their struggles and difficulties. This led to meaningful spiritual conversations and prayer time to provide comfort to them.

In 2024, we are expanding the number of dinners we provide from 7 to 12 (i.e. once a month). This increase offers more relational context for us to build friendships and, God willing, more opportunities to talk about Jesus. We need volunteers to serve in providing meals (the meal team) or building friendships (the befriending team). If you are interested, please get in touch with Felice (felicewst13@gmail.com) or Oliver (oliverchia@gracebaptistchurch.sg)

The church can also partner in prayer. Firstly, we thank God for the opportunities to do good for our neighbours, the friendships formed and the occasions when we could share the gospel. Secondly, we ask that the church pray for sustaining grace and joy for the team as we serve and that we can model the love of Jesus Christ. Thirdly, continue to pray for the girls and staff that God the Spirit will bring comfort and give ears to hear and hearts to heed the good news of Jesus Christ!
