Spurgeon & the Church — This Saturday!
This Saturday, we have the privilege of gathering together to learn from one of God's great gifts to the church — Charles Spurgeon.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892) was an English Baptist pastor who, from the age of 20, gave 38 years of his life to one congregation in London. Week after week, he preached Jesus Christ and Him crucified. At the opening of his Metropolitan Tabernacle, he declared that the subject of his ministry would always be the person of Jesus Christ — and he never wavered. He didn't see the church as a program, but as those for whom Christ died. And thus, he gave his life to seeing her flourish. His legacy is a simple but powerful reminder: love Christ, love the church — and do it all for the glory of God.
Renowned author, speaker, professor of church history, and Spurgeon scholar, Dr. Geoff Chang will be opening up not just how Spurgeon preached, but how he loved the church, shepherded his people, and followed Christ faithfully. Through it all, we pray our hearts would be stirred with greater love for Christ and His church.
Ways we can hope to grow:
A deeper love for the local church and the glory of Christ (Eph. 3:21)
A fresh vision for what faithful, Christ-centred ministry looks like as a local church member (Rom. 15:14)
A renewed appreciation for the richness of church history, and for the faithful men and women who have served the Lord before us (Heb. 13:7)
Ways we can pray:
That God would prepare our hearts to receive what we hear with humility and joy (James 1:21)
That Geoff would teach with clarity, warmth, and the Spirit's power (1 Cor. 2:1–5)
That what we learn on Saturday would bear fruit in how we love Christ and one another (John 13:35)
We hope you'll join us — and bring a friend!
This will be held on 23 May, and you can check in from 9.00am. You can still sign up here and each ticket is at $20/pax. Walk-ins are welcome.
