Youth Day Camp 2026
Our youth held a Youth Day Camp at the end of June. Nicholas, our Ministry Worker for Youth, shares with us what they did and some takeaways.
What makes me, me? Friends, family, grades, sports – are these the things that make me who I am? Where else should I be looking for my identity?
These were the questions we discussed at our youth day camp, held on 27th June 2026! The camp saw 20 youth and 11 helpers wrestle with what God’s Word says about our identity, and about the voices and opinions we should be giving weight to.
Nathaniel Tan gave two talks on this topic, drawing from Tim Keller’s booklet The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness. The first talk focused on how we should think about ourselves, and drew from Paul’s exhortations against pride in 1 Corinthians 3. We reflected on how we ought to find our identity not in worldly status and prideful comparison, but in Christ. In the second talk, we looked at how our identity shouldn’t be based on the opinions of others, but like Paul in 1 Corinthians 4, we should regard ourselves according to God’s judgement. We shared about how the opinions of others can often affect our decisions and thinking in idolatrous ways, and reflected on how Christ changes the way we receive the opinions of others.
We also had an extended time of games together! A key highlight was the afternoon team game, which saw the youth travelling around church to complete various station games manned by our volunteers.
What encouraged me most was having open and honest spiritual conversations with the youth. Several youth shared about the pressures they faced to fit in with their friends in school. Others talked about the social and material cost that came with following Christ, and the challenges they faced putting their trust in Him. It was a good opportunity for us to show them how Christ brings hope and transformation to the identity problems they faced, and how following Him is truly the best thing we can do with our lives.
It was also encouraging to see the volunteers eagerly engage the youth in these spiritual discussions. Sowing spiritual seeds requires both an eager sower and a receptive soil. I am so thankful that these volunteers are eager to pour into the lives of our youth and see Christ formed in them.
Do pray that the gospel seeds sown will bear fruit in time to come. Pray that as these youth are confronted with many voices telling them who they should be, the voice of Christ in His word would ring loud and clear in their ears and hearts!
