Baptisms and Transfers – 17 May 2026
At our 17 May 2026, we had the joy of baptising and welcoming three members. Members of GBC had voted to receive them, and eight others by transfer at the Members’ Meeting the week prior, on 10 May.
Baptism is a wonderful event for the church to celebrate and be encouraged by.. Baptism was given by Jesus to make visible the gospel. When one goes under the water, we are identifying with Jesus’ death and put to death our old, sinful self. When one emerges from the water, it pictures Jesus’ resurrection from the grave and how all who believe in Him have new life. Although the act of baptism does not save a person, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to express our faith in Jesus alone for salvation, and to demonstrate our willingness to follow Christ no matter what the cost is.
Pastor Jeremy invited our three candidates to share about God’s work in their life. First up was Hanssen, who grew up in a Christian household and through the relationships and friendships God placed in his life, came to understand the gospel:
What changed for me was realizing that Christianity is not just a collection of stories, stories that sometimes felt like fairy tales but became something deeply true and applicable to my life; I came to recognise more honestly that I am a sinner, that I have been relying on myself and leaving God out of my life and that’s why I needed that forgiveness and direction. And it was then that I began to understand what it meant that Jesus died for my sins and rose again, so that I could be forgiven and have a personal relationship with God.
For Andrea who grew up in GBC, she testified to how God softened her heart and drew her to Himself, and also brought people into her life to journey with her:
I could see how God was softening my heart to His word and He helped me see how living by His word was the best path. He opened my eyes to my sin, how selfish and self-serving I could be and how desperately I was in need of salvation. While I was afraid that my sins were too great and past redemption, I was reminded of 1 John 1:9, that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I believe that Christ died for our sins and through Him I have salvation.
I am very grateful for the many older ladies and youth leaders who constantly checked in on me, and offered to read with me, deepening my relationship with Christ. …
Pinky also shared how God pursued her and remained faithful through her life and testified of the great joy of knowing God:
Since then, I’ve often found myself saying, “So this is what it means to be led by the Holy Spirit.” All those years, from childhood until 2018, I thought I had been born again—but I hadn’t truly surrendered.
Sometimes I wonder why I waited so long—but more than that, I am deeply grateful and humbled that the Lord pursued me through all those years and never let me go.
Today, I can say with certainty: “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Gal 2:20)”
At the end of the service, these new members, as well as the others who joined us by transfer — Terence, Nelia, Adam, Christine, Louise, Timothy, Dorcas and Kevin, were introduced to the church.
Members, write to the church office if you would like a copy of the testimonies (info@gracebaptistchurch.sg). If you wish to stay connected with other members, you may request a copy of our Membership Directory (and all subsequent updates to it) via this form on our “For Members” page.
If God has used these baptisms and transfers to prompt you to find out more about membership at GBC, you can also write to us at info@gracebaptistchurch.sg. Our next membership class will be on 12 September 2026 during the next Training Day.
If you are interested to find out more about this God that they speak about, feel free to reach out to our pastors, elders or your care group leaders! We'd love to chat and share more.
