Training Day (9 May 2026)
We held our second Training Day on 9 May 2026 with about 200 adults and children gathered on a Saturday morning to learn and be equipped together.
The morning began with a short “Ask Anything” with Pastor Eugene. Members used the time to ask Pastor Eugene anything, and to get to know him better.
Following that, everyone split into one of five different tracks that were being taught that morning:
Church Matters
Evangelism in Practice (Tools for Everyday Conversations)
How to Read the Bible (Apocalyptic Literature)
When Saints Suffer
Discipling Youth
Various members share their takeaways from the classes they attended:
“The evangelism training was really helpful in guiding me to shape my testimony thoughtfully. We learnt that a testimony isn’t just good for evangelism, but also serves as a reminder to other believers and an encouragement to ourselves. The role-plays were great for showing us practical ways to apply the tools, and it was helpful to come up with an action plan moving forward.
My 2 key takeaways/reflections:
(1) When sharing our testimonies, the gospel must be central i.e., the core message of Jesus’ death and resurrection. While life before Christ and how we came to Him matter, we also can’t leave out life after coming to Christ. We need to be real about our ongoing walk of faith, lest it sound like a happily-ever-after fairytale. This means being honest about our struggle with sin in a fallen world, and our hope in Christ amidst all that.
(2) Beyond the tools and techniques, we must not neglect prayer. Ultimately, God is sovereign and He alone moves hearts. This truth comforts us when we feel anxious about the outcome, but also humbles us when we are tempted to feel self-righteous.”
The Evangelism in Practice training continued from our first Training Day.
Pastor Eugene taught us how to read apocalyptic literature.
“How to Read Apocalyptic Literature” was helpful beyond apocalyptic literature. Pastor Eugene gave an excellent foundational method of reading the Bible that helps us correctly apply the text to our current lives. I learnt how to exegete, reflect on how the text relates to Christ, and then apply this Christian truth to my life. Applying this to apocalyptic texts (like Revelation) should help.”
“It was encouraging to gather at the discipling youth session during Training Day and hear from the youth leaders about their plans for engaging the youth in our church. The session also offered practical encouragement on journeying with young people — learning to speak less and listen more, creating safe spaces for them to process failure and sadness, and most importantly, showing them love while modelling godly behaviour in our everyday lives. More than that, it provided parents of tweens and teenagers with a meaningful community as we navigate parenting together, and it was heartening to hear brief sharings from youth leaders, parents, and grandparents alike. ”
Peixian, who facilitated part of the “When Saints Suffer” track, also shares her experience:
“It was a joy to facilitate the discussion with the ladies on anxiety. There was a great openness that the ladies had in receiving and applying God’s word to their heart’s concerns. I love seeing ladies teach and encourage each other in gospel truths.”
Peixian facilitated a discussion with the ladies as part of the “When Saints Suffer” track.

Our children continued their programme where they learned about how “God Always Wins”. That morning, our volunteers took the children through the topic, “God Wins Over All Gods”. They learnt how God is the one true God and wins over all gods. Other gods are powerless, and it is easy for God to win because nothing is too hard for Him. God deserves to be in first place, and it is therefore wrong to place anything before God.
We also had volunteers in the nursery all morning looking after those below the age of 4. We are once again thankful for the many volunteers who spent time preparing for this programme and also spent the morning with our children. If you are a member, and are available to help with the children (aged 0 to 12 years old), please speak with Siew Ting or Pastor Jeremy.
Our next Training Day will be on 12 September. Save the date and we look forward to seeing you there!
