Recap of Members' Meeting (12 July 2026)
We held our Members’ Meeting on 12 July 2026. That morning, we also held our English Congregational Meeting (ECM), where we voted on two elders.
Membership Matters
Welcoming New Members
Following an opening prayer by Elder Toshi, Pastor Jeremy stepped forward to introduce those seeking to join GBC as members. He invited up the elders who did their elder chat to introduce them by sharing their conversion and subsequent growth in the faith. Their testimonies had already been sent to members prior to this meeting. During the meeting, members could also ask any questions at this meeting before the church affirmed each candidate by a show of hands.
At this Meeting, we welcomed a total of 12 new members – 2 by baptism, 9 by transfer and 1 by statement. We welcomed by transfer: Lai Shi Hong, Bryan Ng, Ai Tam, Chen Ying Jie, Ho Bee Peng, Lim Kok Hoe, Jolene Lau, Amos Ghui and Eliada Yong. Faith Hoon joined us by statement. We also welcomed Susana Samat and John Lee, pending their baptism.
Pastor Jeremy also led all the members to recite the Members’ Covenant as a reminder of our commitment to one another as members of this local church.
We thank God for these new members. All members can request for a copy of the Membership Directory (as well as all subsequent updates) from here, or access this link via the “For Members” page on our website. We also have name tags that we hope can help us get to know one another. Request yours here.
Members transferring out
Pastor Jeremy shared about those who are requesting a transfer to other churches.Members were given the chance to ask questions, before affirming their transfers. We are encouraged that they have found another gospel-preaching church to be a part of to love and serve. We can pray that they will continue to grow in the local body where God has led them to be.
A pastoral care issue
Elder Andrew Sung also stepped forward to share a pastoral care issue regarding one of our members, who has been absent. He encouraged the church to reach out to the member and to keep praying that God will work to cause the member to turn back to Him and the community. Andrew led the church in prayer, as we expressed our dependence on God together for the Spirit to work to bring about repentance.
Members, if you have any further questions, or would like to share any updates regarding the issue, do not hesitate to contact Andrew, or any of the other elders.
Finance Update
Elder Wei Quan provided a quick finance update. He reminded the church that love delights to provide and encouraged us to respond with joyful generosity. Giving is not just about meeting the budget but it is an investment in the gospel work. As members, let us continue to give cheerfully and generously with what God has provided us with.
Missions
Next, Pastor Ryan shared some updates about missions. It was a joy to have a missionary couple that we support present at the meeting. Ryan encouraged members to speak with them to hear of the work God is doing in the world, and be encouraged by how the gospel is going out in the nations.
Ryan also had the opportunity to visit one of our missionaries and it was an encouraging visit. They hope to send a short-term team next year to do campus evangelism. Members who are keen to find out more can speak with Ryan (ryancuria@gracebaptistchurch.sg).
New Staff
Pastor Eugene also introduced Nicholas Chuan, who has joined us as a Ministry Worker for Young Adults from 1 July. Nicholas is no stranger to us, as he was a Trainee since last May. Nicholas also shared with the church how we can be praying for him and his wife, Dinnie.
Trainees
Next, Pastor Eugene introduced the new trainees that will join the Traineeship from July to November. This year, we have 3 trainees – 2 from GBC and 1 from Acts Baptist Church. Our members, Jared and Qing Ping have joined the programme this year. We also warmly welcome Victor from Acts Baptist Church. This is not the first time that we have welcomed trainees from Acts Baptist Church, as their pastors have joined us a number of years ago. We are thankful that the Traineeship is another opportunity to build up not only our own members, but also fellow believers from other churches.
We will share more about the trainees in a subsequent article, so do keep a lookout for that.
Ministry Plans
Growing in the word
Pastor Eugene then shared some ministry plans. We will continue our sermon series in Revelation 1-3 until the end of August. Following that, we will embark on a study of Numbers, which will take us to the end of the year.
The next two months will be quite a busy period in our life together. Eugene highlighted a couple of upcoming events:
Women’s Conference on Sanctification (25 July, 9.30am-3.30pm)
Gospel and Motherhood: A talk by Beverly Berrus (26 July, 11.15am-12.15pm)
Church Picnic (10 May, 8.30am) – More details here.
Weekender (10-13 Sept)
Training Day (12 Sep, 9am-12.30pm) – Find out more and sign up here.
Church Camp 2027
Finally, we encourage members to save the dates for next year’s Church Camp! Lord willing, we will hold the camp from 9 to 12 June 2027, at Amerald Resort Hotel in Desaru, Malaysia.
ECM Results and Closing Prayer
Elder Toshi announced the results of the ECM. The members voted to affirm the terms of Pastor Thian Chye and Elder Beh Soo Hee. Pastor Thian Chye will serve for a term of 5 years, beginning 1 August 2026. Elder Beh will serve for another term of 3 years, beginning 1 October. We thank God for the faithful service of these elders for the past few years, and let us continue to pray that God will strengthen them for the task ahead. We also thank God for their family’s support.
Elder Toshi also shared that his term as the Chair of the ECL is up and Elder Wei Quan will be taking over. We thank God for Toshi’s faithful service.
Toshi brought the meeting to a close by thanking God for the ways He is at work in our church and praying for all our plans. As a church, let us continue to love God, love His word and love His people. Let us also seek to obey Him in all that we do.
Our next Members' Meeting will be on 13 September 2026. Our Weekender participants will be joining us at the service and meeting that day. Save the date and see you there.
