Baptisms and Transfers – 19 July 2026
At our service on 19 July 2026, we had the joy of baptising and welcoming two members. Members of GBC had voted to receive them, and ten others by transfer or by statement at the Members’ Meeting the week prior, on 12 July.
Baptism was given by Jesus to make visible the gospel and to encourage us in the faith. It is also symbolic. When one goes under the water, we are identifying with Jesus’ burial and put to death our old, sinful self. When one emerges from the water, it pictures Jesus’ resurrection from the grave and how all who believe in Him have new life. Although the act of baptism does not save a person, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to express our faith in Jesus alone for salvation, and to demonstrate our willingness to follow Christ no matter what the cost is. It makes clear to all present that we are committed to follow Jesus, no matter the cost.
Pastor Jeremy invited our candidates to share how they have responded to the good news of Jesus and their commitment to want to live for God in the community of this local church. John shared how though he grew up in church, he found himself struggling with sin. God finally led him to see that salvation came not by works, but through faith in Christ alone:
It was at my lowest moment that I realized that my knowledge of God was just knowledge. Knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus are two entirely different things. When I was 12, I truly confessed my sins to Jesus and also acknowledged Him as Lord and Master of my life. It is truly by grace that I have been saved through faith, it is a gift of God (Eph 2:8).
Susana testified to how God drew her to Himself through all the difficulties in life, and she finally found her joy and hope in Him alone:
I finally understand who Jesus is and why He saved me. We are all sinners under God’s wrath, and we need a saviour. I thank God for sending His son, Jesus Christ, who came to Earth in the form of a man, to live, suffer and die for me so that my sins would be paid for-once and for all. Ephesians 2:18 says that through Jesus, I can have access to the Father by one spirit.
I now walk in the newness of life that Jesus has won for me through His death, burial and resurrection. I have believed and accepted that Jesus Christ is my Lord and my Saviour. Not only have I found my God, I also have my newfound family in Christ, here, who has showered me with love and care. And in His arms, I found my sanctuary, my home.
Our new member, Jolene, was not present that morning.
At the end of the service, these new members, as well as the others who joined us by transfer — Ying Jie, Ai Tam, Amos, Eliada, Bee Peng, Kok Hoe, Jolene, Shi Hong, Bryan and Faith — were introduced to the church.
