Resources on Gender
In the month of April and May, we embarked on a 4-week series titled, “God’s Design for Men and Women”. In the first sermon, Pastor Eugene preached from Genesis and showed from Scripture how gender is part of God’s good design. God, in His wisdom, made us men and women.
We have compiled some additional resources if you have questions or would like to explore more!
The Grand Design: Male and Female He Made Them
(Owen Strachan, Gavin Peacock)
“The world has gone gray–fuzzy, blurry, gender–neutral gray. In a secularist culture, many people today are confused about what it means to be a man or a woman. Even the church struggles to understand the meaning of manhood and womanhood. In The Grand Design, Owen Strachan and Gavin Peacock clear away the confusion and open up the Scriptures. They show that the gospel frees us to behold the unity and distinctiveness of the sexes. In Christ, we have a script for our lives. Doxology, we discover, is in the details.”
God’s Good Design
(Carrie Sandom)
“Claire Smith looks closely at seven key Bible passages about men and women and how they should relate together in God's purposes.”
A(Typical) Woman
(Abigail Dodds)
In a culture that can belittle womanhood on the one hand—making it irrelevant—and glorify it on the other—making it everything—it’s hard to know what it really means to be a woman. But when we understand womanhood through the lens of Scripture, we see that we need a bigger category for what God has called “woman.”
This book breathes fresh air into our womanhood, reminding us what life in Christ—as a woman—looks like. When we see that we are women in all we do, we can be at peace with how God has created us, recognizing womanhood as an essential part of Christ’s mission and work.
Reclaiming Masculinity
(Matt Fuller)
“In a world where masculinity is often associated with toxicity, what does it mean to "be a man"?
In a straightforward and empathetic way, Matt Fuller gets beyond our culture's confusion and puts stereotypes to the side as he mines what the Bible says is distinctive about being a man. He outlines a positive vision of biblical masculinity and shows what that might look like in real life today. Men will be encouraged to be sacrificial when leading, work hard, protect others, and listen to what others want from them.”
God’s Design for Women
(Sharon James)
“Is there anything unique about being a woman? God’s Word says yes!
Men and women are absolutely equal in dignity. They are also significantly different. Women are only honoured (and fulfilled) when both truths are celebrated.”
Gender Ideology (Sharon James)
“The world has embraced the idea that gender is something that can be decided by individuals. As Christians encounter colleagues, friends and family members who identify as a gender other than the one they were born, we need to be informed and equipped with knowledge about what the issues are, what different terms mean and what the Bible has to say about these things.”
