Spurgeon Conference
Pastor Ryan Curia encourages us to attend an upcoming conference in May focusing on Charles Spurgeon’s ministry as a faithful pastor.
“The proper study of the Christian is Christ. Next to that subject is the Church … You will not think any less of Christ for thinking much of His Church.”
— Charles Spurgeon
Charles Spurgeon, often called “The Prince of Preachers”, is widely regarded as the greatest preacher of modern church history.
But he wasn’t just a tremendous preacher—he was a faithful pastor too.
As Christians, we have the joy of learning from faithful believers who have gone before us. By studying their lives and ministries, we gain wisdom, perspective and encouragement for our own walk with Christ.
Spurgeon was one of God’s special gifts to the church—throughout the generations.. He was an exceptional model of faithful, Christ-centred ministry in the local church.
So what does that mean for us?
The Conference
This May, we have the privilege of hosting Dr. Geoff Chang—a leading Spurgeon scholar and professor of church history at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary—for a two-day Spurgeon Conference in partnership with the Singapore Baptist Convention.
Day 1 of the conference is for pastors, seminarians, and church leaders.
Day 2 of the conference is open to all.
Across these sessions, we’ll explore not just Spurgeon’s preaching, but how he loved the church, shepherded his people, and faithfully followed Christ—in and out of the pulpit.
This matters for all of us. Because even if you’re not a pastor, you are part of Christ’s church. And learning more about healthy, Christ-centered ministry in the local church helps all of us grow as members of Christ’s body.
