Training Day (12 September 2026)
We held our third Training Day on 12 September 2026. It was an especially packed Training Day as our Weekender participants joined us too adults and children gathered on a Saturday morning to learn and be equipped together.
As always, we began the morning with a short “Ask Anything” with Pastor Eugene. Members used the time to ask Pastor Eugene anything, and to get to know him better.
Following that, everyone split into one of seven different tracks that were being taught that morning:
Church Matters
How to Read the Bible (The Pentateuch)
Listening and Speaking to God
Stewardship For God’s Glory
Sustainable Church Planting
When “I Do” Falls Apart
Women Growing Together
We got some of our members to share their takeaways from some of the classes that morning:
“Stewardship for God’s Glory” was helpful in giving us a starting point in how we think of our resources (time, money, relationships, circumstances, etc.). Firstly, we got reminded that our whole lives (not just segments or parts of our lives) belong to God as he alone is creator, and our saviour from sin that corrupts our view of resources (Rom 12:1, Gal 2:20).
In our sin, we are tempted to think that we are the “owners” rather than the “stewards” of our resources. This wrong view leads us to fall into the trap of discontentment/ungratefulness, comparison with others, and ultimately idolatry where we allow our resources to “own” us as our masters. From this, we need to repent, and worship God as the “true owner” of all things. This particularly resonated with me as I have often found myself trusting in my own plans, and money to give me a sense of security and control in life.
Then, we considered how we are to wait for Christ’s return as stewards today before entering the joy of Christ (Matt 24:42-25:46). Specifically, we dived deeper into stewarding Money, and Time. In these sessions, we thought more about how we can be good stewards of God’s money, and tools to help us consider how we can structure our given time to do good works (Eph 2:10).
Lastly, we heard a personal testimony from one of our members who is a Financial Consultant about how he manages his own finances, while considering being a “steward” rather than an “owner”.”
“This track was especially helpful in showing me that the Pentateuch is not simply a collection of historical narratives or laws, but one unified story structured by covenants and directed towards God’s prophetic purpose. It is an unfinished story whose ultimate fulfilment is found in Christ, with the central theme of God’s purpose to bless the nations through His promise of a seed, a people and a place.
I learnt to read a passage in its broader context - considering how past events shaped the text, how it fits within the unfolding story of Scripture, and how that story ultimately finds its fulfilment in Jesus Christ. These are valuable tools for helping me exegete Scripture more carefully and, more importantly, see Christ throughout the Bible. Truly blessed.”
“The training on “When I DO falls apart” by Pastor Andrew was a very practical session on how to walk with someone considering divorce or someone already going through divorce. Although prefaced on God’s design for marriage as a lifelong covenant and that God hates divorce, it was permitted based on 2 grounds: sexual immorality/adultery and abandonment (to include abuse and serious endangerment).
The key take away when walking with someone considering divorce or someone going through divorce is to focus on the person and his/her attitude toward God and his/her salvation rather than on the divorce. Listen, listen, listen. If abuse exists prioritise establishing safety. Remember that divorce is a profound loss and point them to Scripture that cries out to God – helping them grieve biblically. We can also help them in a practical way – children, housing, finances, loneliness, etc.
“Our calling is not merely to help people decide whether to divorce, but to walk with suffering and sinful people toward faithful obedience to Christ – before, during and after marital breakdown.””
“Pastor Ryan teamed up with friends from Trellis Capital to share more about global cities as springboards for missions, and the precious opportunity we have in Singapore to take part in this same work. We spent time in the Bible looking at how God mobilized people and their work in cities to further His kingdom, and also saw how this was being worked out in the present day all over Southeast Asia as we heard from partners of Trellis Capital. These friends shared how their professions and small businesses have been used for the work of the gospel, enlarging and challenging our own ambition and desire for God to bless the work of our hands.”
Our children continued their programme where they learned about how “God Always Wins”. That morning, our volunteers took the children through the topic, “God Wins Over Satan, Death, and Sin”. We are thankful for all the volunteers who spent time preparing for the children’s track and helping out in the nursery. We always love more help, so if you are a member, and are available to help with the children (aged 0 to 12 years old), please speak with Siew Ting or Pastor Jeremy.
Our next Training Day will be on 14 November. This will be the last one of the year and five different tracks will be available. Find out more and sign up here, and see you there!
