Interview with Elders Andrew and Weiquan

We recently installed new elders and here, we interview our newest lay elders, Andrew and Weiquan, to get to know them better and how we can continue to be praying for them in their new role.

Getting to know Andrew

1. Could you introduce yourself and your family?

My name is Andrew, and my wife is Esther. We’ve been married for over eight years and blessed with three children, Elliot, Aiden, and Emmy (our newest addition!).

2. How have you seen God at work in our community as a member?

God has been faithful and good to GBC. We joined as members six years ago when we moved to Singapore from DC. We love the gospel culture at our church and how we have grown over the years in our preaching, membership, discipleship, evangelism, and missions.

3. What is one thing that you are trusting God for as you serve God and His people in this role?

I’m trusting that God keeps me humble and hungry, as I serve King Jesus and our church.

4. How can the church be praying for you and your family?

Pray that this season, especially as we transition to a family of five, continues to be life-giving, as we delight in the supremacy of Jesus. It has been a fun season for us.

Getting to know Weiquan

1. Could you introduce yourself and your family?

My wife, Hui Jing, and I first visited GBC at the end of 2009. We were baptised in 2011 and got married later that same year.

Our older daughter, Kayla, was born in 2014. Some who were members then may remember praying with us as she went through a series of medical diagnoses and procedures, culminating in the removal of a tumour from her tailbone.

Our younger daughter, Amanda, was born in 2018, and together our family has been blessed by the love and support of the church through the years.

2. How have you seen God at work in our community as a member?

I have seen God strengthen our Care Groups over the years by drawing them toward more Bible-centred study. This has shaped our fellowship—grounding our encouragement, accountability, and even correction in God’s word.

I have also seen how faithful expository preaching nourishes the church, preserves and protects the gospel, and helps us remain steadfast. This consistent pattern of preaching has grown and sustained our community’s love for Scripture, even when the message is challenging.

3. What is one thing that you are trusting God for as you serve God and His people in this role?

I am trusting that God is fully in control and that His word is sufficient to instruct and sustain me. I am also thankful for the many faithful men and women He has placed in GBC — co-labourers in the good works He has prepared for our church.

4. How can the church be praying for you and your family?

Please pray for Hui Jing and me to grow in humility, discipline, and faithfulness as we learn to depend on God more and not lean on our own understanding. Pray that we will grow in Christ-like, sacrificial love for one another and for the church.

Please also pray for our children—that they will be cared for spiritually and, by the work of the Holy Spirit, be transformed by God’s word and come to believe in Him.
